The All Progressives Congress (APC) says the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) is rattled by “overwhelming response” to the ruling party’s ongoing electronic membership registration exercise.
Felix Morka, national publicity secretary of the APC, made the allegation in a statement issued on Monday, accusing the opposition party of spreading falsehoods to discredit the process.
Morka dismissed claims attributed to the ADC that civil servants were being coerced into enrolling in the APC’s digital registration platform, describing the allegation as entirely unfounded and deliberately misleading.
According to him, the accusation was designed to undermine what he called the innovative and transformative digitisation of the party’s membership database.
“Terrified by massive All Progressives Congress, APC, membership registration in the ongoing electronic-registration exercise,” Morka said.
“It is a part of ADC’s disinformation campaign that included the fabrication and circulation of a fake ‘APC membership slip’, purporting that a notorious terrorist had registered as a member of APC.”
Morka said public enthusiasm for the APC had surged due to what he described as the visible gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda, leading millions of Nigerians to register willingly and prompting the party to extend the registration deadline from January 31 to February 8, 2026.
“Inspired by visible gains and impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda, millions of Nigerians have registered and continue to register, voluntarily and enthusiastically, as members of our Party, compelling our leadership to yield to popular demand to extend the period of registration from January 31 to February 8, 2026,” he said.
He insisted that the ADC’s posture reflected fear rather than principle, arguing that the opposition’s reaction was driven by the scale and momentum of the registration exercise.
“Clearly, the ADC is intimidated by the phenomenal success of our Party’s E-Registration exercise, for obvious reasons,” Morka said.
“However, that cannot justify concocting and spewing lies in an attempt to smear the exercise.”
Morka said while the opposition remained preoccupied with what he termed misinformation, the APC was focused on advancing its reform agenda and consolidating its digital and democratic credentials.
“While the ADC continues to fumble and peddle falsehood, our great Party remains focused on its onward march as Africa’s standard-bearer of digital and democratic innovation,” he said.
