Godswill Akpabio, senate president, has expressed sorrow over the death of Okechukwu Ezea, the senator who represented Enugu North.
Akpabio spoke during a night of tributes held in honour of the late lawmaker at the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said the 10th senate had suffered repeated losses, noting that three serving senators had died within the past two years.
Those deaths, according to him, included Ifeanyi Ubah, Godiya Akwashiki, and now Ezea.
“The last two years have been particularly heavy for us in the Senate,” Akpabio said.
“We have lost colleagues in quick succession—men of intellect, courage, and vision.
“One of our departed colleagues, a brilliant and committed senator, worked tirelessly until the very end.
“Just days to the New Year, and only hours before the clock would usher in another chapter, death paid another painful visit.
“History teaches us that what truly endures is not power, position, or wealth, but love, compassion, and the good we do for others.
“Politics must never make us lose our humanity.”
