In a bid to ensure proper planning in agriculture and disaster management, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has urged Nigerians to comply with the Seasonal Climate Predictions (SPC) of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET).
This advisory was disclosed by the NOA Director for Akwa Ibom, Mkpoutom Mkpoutom, during a media chat on Friday.
He said NiMET’s predictions offer critical insights into effective planning across key sectors, while urging members of the public to strictly comply with the recently published 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP).
“It is a very critical document for the public,” he said, while emphasizing the importance of NiMET’s prediction for making critical decisions about agriculture, water resources, health, disaster management, and construction.
According to Mkpoutom, the climate prediction was not just a scientific report but a tool for the people’s survival and prosperity as a good understanding of the report will help farmers plan their planting calendars accurately, prepare for potential floods or dry spells, and allocate resources effectively.
The director further decried the increasing volatility of weather patterns arising from climate change, while reiterating the agency’s commitment to working closely with NiMET to disseminate climate prediction reports in simplified formats nationwide.
