A member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly representing Girei State Constituency, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Abdullahi on Tuesday presented his letter of resignation on the floor of the House during plenary.
The Speaker, Mr Bathya Wesley, who read the letter on the floor of the House, wished Abdullahi well in his future endeavours.
Abdullahi, in his letter, cited the crisis in the PDP as his reason for resigning from the party.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr Bernard Hyelamada, told The NGGOSSIPS exclusively on Tuesday that five more members were expected to submit their letters on the floor of the House on Wednesday.
“On Tuesday, the Assembly received one letter from a member representing Girei, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi. More may send their letters on Wednesday during the House plenary,” he said.
Last week, an Adamawa State senator representing Adamawa South Senatorial District on the platform of the PDP, Senator Binos Yaroe, dumped the party.
In a letter addressed to his ward chairman in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area of Adamawa State, the senator said his decision was based on what he described as the fractured state of the party at the national level.
The letter reads: “I wish to inform you of the withdrawal of my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect.
“This is basically due to the fractured state of the party at the national level.
“In doing this, I remain ever grateful for the opportunity and privilege the party gave me, which enabled me to successfully contest elections in 2019 and 2023 to represent the good people of Adamawa South Senatorial District in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“I wish the party well in its efforts to repair the damage it inflicted on itself.”
However, Senator Yaroe is yet to disclose the political party he will join.
Investigation by our correspondent revealed that the senator will join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to retain his senatorial ticket unopposed in the party.
Senator Yaroe is from the same senatorial district as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is expected to contest for the presidency on the platform of the ADC.
A source close to the senator told Weekend NGGOSSIPS on condition of anonymity that Atiku had assured Senator Yaroe of his return to the Senate in 2027.
On Thursday, the Adamawa State PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr Victor Dogo, told The NGGOSSIPS exclusively that all PDP National Assembly members would follow Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or any party he defects to.
