  • The Chief Magistrate Court in Abuja dismissed a criminal defamation case against Nollywood actress Lizzy Anjorin.
  • The case, identified as CR/25/20225, was brought by Abdullahi Adebimpe Mosadoluwa, wife of a Lagos property developer.
  • Anjorin and co-defendant Shakira Ayobami were accused of criminal defamation and related offenses.

A criminal defamation case against Nollywood actress Elizabeth Aishat Anjorin, popularly known as Lizzy Anjorin, has been dismissed by a Chief Magistrate Court in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, renewing public focus on her ongoing legal matters.

The lawsuit, referenced as CR/25/20225, was filed by Abdullahi Adebimpe Mosadoluwa, the wife of a Lagos-based property developer known as Ibile. She had accused Anjorin and her co-defendant, Shakira Ayobami, of criminal defamation and other related offences.

However, Magistrate Sunday A.A. Adukwu ruled that the case was without merit and improperly brought before the court, according to The Leadership Newspapers.

The ruling came after the defendants, through their lawyer A.U.E. Ogboi, filed a preliminary objection questioning both the validity of the case and the court’s jurisdiction to hear it. After evaluating arguments from both sides, the court sided with Anjorin and her co-defendant.

The magistrate highlighted that the complainant had not adhered to the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015. Specifically, the law stipulates that a single criminal complaint must address only one offence, whereas the complainant had combined multiple allegations, making the filing procedurally defective.

Additionally, the court noted that all parties involved were residents of Lagos State, not the Federal Capital Territory, which raised concerns over whether the Abuja court had the authority to handle the matter.

Considering these procedural issues, the court deemed the complaint an abuse of court process and declared it incompetent, ultimately striking it out.

The magistrate also ordered the complainant to pay ₦50,000 in legal costs to the defendants.

Observers have described the ruling as a significant development in a dispute that has attracted widespread attention on social media and within the entertainment industry.
