Lilian Christopher-Musa, wife of the Minister of Defence, has urged Nigerians to see support for military families as both a moral responsibility and a national obligation.
She made the call on Saturday during the Humanitarian Family and Community Day held at Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja, as part of activities marking the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
Speaking as Special Guest of Honour, Mrs Christopher-Musa said the event provided an important platform to express love, care and solidarity with the families of fallen heroes, as well as those of serving and retired personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
She explained that the Family and Community Day went beyond ceremonial observances, as it was intentionally designed to recognise, appreciate and uplift families whose loved ones have paid the ultimate price in defence of the nation or are currently deployed to the battlefront.
Emphasising the vital role families play in national security, she noted that behind every gallant officer is a family whose strength, patience and sacrifice sustain the courage and commitment of those serving on the front lines.
She stressed that supporting military families should be regarded as a collective duty rather than an act of charity.
Mrs Christopher-Musa therefore called on government institutions, corporate organisations, communities and individuals to continually support military families, noting that such support boosts morale within the Armed Forces and strengthens national unity.
The Family and Community Day featured games and recreational activities aimed at fostering unity, healing and encouragement among military families, reinforcing the bond between the military, their families and the wider society.
