Speaking on Thursday on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the spokesperson of the House, Mr. Enemi George, said the lawmakers were acting strictly in line with constitutional provisions and not under the influence of any political figure.
Responding to questions on whether the FCT minister played a role in the impeachment move, George cautioned against mixing politics with constitutional responsibilities, describing such an approach as dangerous.
He stressed that the House should not be reduced to the influence of an individual, adding that claims linking the legislature’s actions to a single political actor were unfair and demeaning.
“The FCT minister is a politician. If we begin to mix politics with constitutional matters, we will begin to create serious problems,” he said.
“I am not speaking here as a party chief but as the spokesperson of the Rivers State House of Assembly. While I may be politically aligned with the FCT minister, it is insulting to reduce the activities of an institution created by the Constitution to the influence of one individual,” George added.
He maintained that the impeachment process was not politically motivated, insisting that the governor was alleged to have breached several constitutional provisions.
George also dismissed allegations of budget padding and claims that legislative duties had been stalled, describing such accusations as unfounded.
