President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare and dignity of the Nigerian Armed Forces, stressing that national security depends on sustained support for those who defend the country.
The president said this in a statement he signed on Thursday to commemorate the Armed Forces Remembrance and Celebration Day, observed to honour fallen heroes and recognise the service of personnel currently serving in the military.
In the message to mark the occasion, Tinubu said Nigeria was pausing to remember the men and women of the Armed Forces who paid the ultimate price in defence of the nation, noting that their sacrifices continue to sustain the country’s freedom and peace.
He said that although many fallen soldiers may not be widely remembered by name, their courage remains central to Nigeria’s stability, adding that a nation that forgets its heroes risks losing its sense of purpose.
The President also addressed the families of fallen service members, including widows, children and relatives, acknowledging the depth of their loss and assuring them that the nation remains grateful for the sacrifices made by their loved ones.
Tinubu paid tribute to serving military personnel across the Army, Navy and Air Force, commending their discipline, courage and professionalism in carrying out their duties, often under difficult conditions and far from home.
“As President and Commander-in-Chief, I reaffirm my commitment to the welfare and dignity of our Armed Forces,” he said, adding that Nigeria would continue to stand firmly behind those tasked with protecting its sovereignty.
