President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep condolences to the Ogun State Government, the people of the state and the Onabanjo family over the death of Chief Lucia Onabanjo, wife of the first civilian governor of Ogun State, Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo.
Chief Lucia Onabanjo died on Monday, January 12, at the age of 101. President Tinubu described her as a revered matriarch whose life was defined by compassion, selfless service and unwavering commitment to humanity.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president praised her steadfast support for her husband during his tenure as governor between 1979 and 1983. He also highlighted her strong passion for the welfare of children and the empowerment of women, describing these qualities as enduring hallmarks of her life.
President Tinubu noted that the widespread tributes received before and after her passing were a clear testament to the profound influence she had on individuals and communities across Ogun State and beyond. He added that her legacy of kindness and generosity would continue to inspire future generations.
The president called on the Ogun State Government and the Onabanjo family to honour her memory by upholding and promoting the values she stood for, particularly her concern for the poor and vulnerable in society.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and asked God to grant strength and comfort to her family during this period of mourning.
Chief Lucia Onabanjo was widely admired for her modest yet meaningful contributions to public life, especially her advocacy for women and children, and her loyal support for her husband throughout his years of public service.
