President Bola Tinubu on Thursday held separate closed-door meetings with Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State, and Caleb Mutfwang, governor of Plateau State, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
It was gathered that Mutfwang arrived at the State House at about 3:00 pm, while Makinde arrived roughly 30 minutes later.
The discussions are taking place amid intensifying political manoeuvres and consultations ahead of the 2027 general election.
Makinde, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, is one of the few PDP governors who have remained with the opposition despite recent defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Oyo governor is widely regarded as harbouring presidential ambitions and is believed to be positioning himself for the PDP’s presidential ticket in 2027.
Mutfwang recently defected from the PDP to the APC, adding to the growing number of opposition figures aligning with the ruling party.
Thursday’s meeting was the first publicly known engagement between Mutfwang and the president since his defection.
Tinubu has, in recent months, intensified consultations with governors across party lines as political alignments ahead of 2027 continue to evolve.
