President Bola Tinubu has continued his state visit to Türkiye, beginning official engagements after a ceremonial welcome in Ankara that marked the start of high-level interactions between the two countries.
The development was disclosed on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Mr Sunday Dare, in a post on his official X handle, @SundayDareSD. According to him, President Tinubu proceeded from the reception ceremony to a series of scheduled bilateral meetings with the President of Türkiye and senior government officials from both nations.
The discussions are aimed at strengthening diplomatic relations and expanding cooperation in key areas of mutual interest, including defence and security, trade and investment, energy, and broader economic development. The talks are expected to open new avenues for strategic partnership between Nigeria and Türkiye.
Officials said the smooth progression of the visit reflects the growing ties between the two countries and underscores Nigeria’s renewed diplomatic engagement under President Tinubu’s administration.
Meanwhile, the Presidency has dismissed concerns over the President’s wellbeing following a brief incident in Ankara. Responding to enquiries on Tuesday, Presidential Spokesperson Mr Bayo Onanuga clarified that President Tinubu merely lost his balance momentarily after stepping on a metal object on the floor.
Mr Onanuga described the incident as minor and inconsequential, stressing that it was a stumble and not a fall. He cautioned against attempts to sensationalise the occurrence.
“The President stepped on a metal object on the floor, which made him lose his balance. This is not a big deal, except for those who want to make mischief out of the fleeting incident. It was a mere stumble, thank God, not a fall,” he said.
