Media personality Iyo has accused officers of the Nigeria Police Force of assault, extortion, and robbery, alleging that they forcefully emptied his bank accounts after demanding ₦6 million.
In a series of posts shared on his Instagram page, Iyo claimed the incident occurred while he was on his way to the gym. According to him, he was double-crossed by a bus filled with police officers who allegedly forced him into their vehicle without explanation.
He alleged that the officers beat him severely, injuring his rib, confiscated his phones, and compelled him to unlock all his bank accounts, including his savings account. Iyo further claimed that he was accused of cybercrime and pressured to contact friends to raise the ₦6 million demanded by the officers.
“I try as much as possible to lead a good ‘legal’ life… so tell me why these police officers put me in handcuffs, beat me to the point where I could barely breathe… accused me of being into fraud and asked me to call my friends to send me money to complete the 6 million they asked for,” he wrote.
Iyo alleged that the officers drove him to a secluded area within another local government, threatened his life, and forced him to withdraw and transfer all the money he had. Afterward, he claimed they abandoned him at the location, leaving him stranded and injured.
Describing the experience as “broad daylight robbery by the police force,” Iyo lamented the lack of surveillance cameras or any means to track the officers involved. He expressed fear over what could have happened if he had no money to give.
“This is the height of oppression and cannot be tolerated… all my savings!!!” he added.
