Vice President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday represented President Bola Tinubu at the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day ceremony held at the National Arcade, Abuja.
The event was attended by top government officials, including the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio; the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun; and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu. Also present were ministers, service chiefs and other senior government officials.
The annual ceremony is a solemn national observance dedicated to honouring Nigeria’s fallen heroes—members of the Armed Forces who paid the ultimate price in defence of the country’s unity, sovereignty and peace.
The event featured moments of remembrance and reflection, underscoring the nation’s gratitude for the courage, sacrifice and patriotism of military personnel who lost their lives in active service to Nigeria.
