Shaibu gave the charge on Monday during an operational visit to the Headquarters of 3 Division in Jos, where he addressed officers and soldiers on the prevailing security challenges in the state.
He described discipline as the bedrock of the military profession, noting that service in the Nigerian Army is voluntary and anchored on the defence of the nation’s territorial integrity.
The COAS said he had been briefed by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division on operational activities and welfare challenges, adding that the most pressing issues were already being addressed.
According to him, Army Headquarters is providing the necessary combat enablers to ensure troops are adequately equipped, assuring personnel that their welfare remains a top priority.
He urged younger soldiers to respect the chain of command and draw guidance from their superiors, while emphasising the need for physical fitness, mental alertness and effective leadership, particularly by Senior Non-Commissioned Officers.
On ongoing operations in Plateau State, Shaibu described the security situation as unique and assured the troops that Operation ENDURING PEACE was being properly guided and supported to achieve its mandate.
The army chief also commissioned two blocks of 30 flats for Non-Commissioned Officers and a separate residential block for officers at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos, as part of efforts to improve troop welfare and living conditions.
