The traditional ruler, who married Ivie Atuwatse in 2014 and has three children, made the remarks in an interview aired on BBC Pidgin and shared on social media on Friday. He explained that his decision is driven by a desire to maintain harmony and avoid complications in his private life, despite societal expectations that kings marry multiple wives.
Ogiame Atuwatse III noted that his life balances public duties and family time, and when away from official responsibilities, he prefers to remain at home with his wife and children. He believes dividing his attention among multiple households would compromise the quality of care and time he gives to his family.
The monarch added that his royal position already demands much of his time through meetings and calls from government officials, making moments of relaxation with his family invaluable. He further stated that he does not feel equipped to practice polygamy and is comfortable with a monogamous lifestyle.

The track, which was first teased last year, failed to meet its planned release timeline due to the singer’s physical condition at the time. In a statement shared on her X (formerly Twitter) page on Friday, Simi explained that she struggled with illness, exhaustion, and nausea during the recording period.
According to her, the health issues significantly affected both the completion and promotion of the song, making it difficult to meet deadlines. She recalled that even filming the snippet video required a great deal of effort, as her body was not cooperating.
Simi praised Chike for his professionalism, revealing that he promptly joined her in the studio after returning from a trip, unaware of the condition she was dealing with at the time.
The singer also disclosed that she handled the mixing and mastering of the song herself, despite admitting that mastering is her least favorite part of music production. She said she was surprised by the level of energy she managed to muster during the process.
She added that the release of the song also addresses long-standing claims that she had abandoned her music career after getting married.
