The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Olakunle Nafiu, has warned corps members against abandoning their national service, stressing that the scheme remains vital to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
Nafiu gave the warning while addressing members of the 2026 Batch A Stream One at orientation camps in Ogun and Oyo states, according to a statement issued by the NYSC spokesperson, Caroline Embu.
He reiterated the objectives of the scheme and the critical role corps members play in fostering national unity and contributing to development across the country. The NYSC boss commended the participants for answering the call to service and urged them to manage their finances prudently during and after their service year.
“When you are posted to your place of primary assignment, respect their rules, be punctual, be resourceful and learn the culture of the organisation you are posted to,” he said, noting that positive conduct would enhance their personal growth and reflect well on the scheme.
In Ogun State, the NYSC coordinator, Olayinka Nasamu, disclosed that 3,341 corps members were registered at the camp, including 975 originally deployed to Lagos State. She said the corps members adapted well to the regimented camp environment and described their conduct as commendable.
Nasamu added that camp officials were carrying out their duties diligently, with a high level of cooperation and synergy.
Similarly, the Oyo State coordinator, Kayode Ola-Peters, said 3,068 corps members were registered in the state, noting that they displayed good character and participated actively in camp activities.
