The Presidency has clarified that no ambassador-designate has been posted to Turkey, stating that the appointment is still under review following a naming mix-up.
The clarification was contained in a corrected State House statement issued on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, spokesperson to President Bola Tinubu.
According to the statement, President Tinubu has so far approved the posting of only three ambassador-designates from the 68 nominees earlier confirmed by the Senate.
The Presidency noted that Ambassador Ayodele Oke has been posted to France, while Colonel Lateef Are (rtd) was approved as Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to the United States of America. Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, a former envoy to South Korea, was also confirmed as the High Commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom.
The Presidency said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been directed to notify the governments of the three countries in line with diplomatic procedures, stressing that no decision has been finalised regarding the Turkey posting.
It added that the review process is ongoing and that a formal announcement will be made once a decision is reached.
