Major General Audu stated that the purpose of the visit was to formally introduce himself and to ensure effective coordination with OPHK in preparation for forthcoming joint operations. He emphasised that collaboration, sustained vigilance, and continuous monitoring are essential to stabilising the Lake Chad Basin, a priority shared by all MNJTF member states.
Commending the Theatre Commander for comprehensive operational briefings, Audu described the presentations as meticulous and insightful. He highlighted the need to refine operational strategies, integrate emerging threat intelligence, and apply lessons learned from previous operations to mitigate potential setbacks. He noted that the visit reinforced regional cooperation and operational synergy.
The Force Commander was received by the Theatre Commander of OPHK, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, who described the visit as both timely and significant. He praised the engagement as an opportunity to strengthen MNJTF-OPHK collaboration and enhance joint operational planning.
During the visit, Major General Audu was briefed on measures to secure the Lake Chad waterways, safeguard regional economic activities, and future operational projections.
A key highlight of the visit was the commissioning of the newly completed Sector 3 Officers’ Transit Accommodation at Maimalari Cantonment. The facility, comprising eight fully furnished one-bedroom flats, is intended to accommodate officers on administrative and welfare leave, thereby reducing unnecessary troop movement.
The Theatre Commander commended the initiative, aligning it with the Chief of Army Staff’s “Soldiers First” ethos, and encouraged commanders at all levels to prioritise troop welfare.
The visit also included interactive sessions, presentation of souvenirs to the Force Commander, and group photographs, reflecting the strong collaboration between OPHK and MNJTF in optimising operational platforms and enhancing counter-terrorism capabilities along the Lake Chad waterways.
