A Federal High Court sitting in Benin City on Monday adjourned to 23 February 2026 the cyberstalking case involving a former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Benin Branch, Mr Ede Asenoguan.
The four-count charge, which also involves one Jessica Iguodala, currently at large, is contained in a charge sheet marked FHC/B/121C, sighted by journalists in Benin City.
The prosecution alleged that in March 2025, Asenoguan and Iguodala knowingly and intentionally transmitted, or caused to be transmitted, communication through a computer system, particularly social media, containing allegations that harmed the reputation of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Uyi Technical Limited, Mr Francis Omoruyi Oloton.
The alleged cyberstalking offence is said to be punishable under Sections 24(2)(c) and 27(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, as amended in 2024.
It was further alleged that Asenoguan, a former Edo NBA chairman, on March 11, 2023, conspired to obstruct, prevent, pervert or defeat the course of justice by taking Jessica Iguodala on police administrative bail and subsequently failing or refusing to produce her in court.
According to the prosecution, the action stalled Iguodala’s trial at the Federal High Court and constitutes an offence punishable under Section 126(1) of the Criminal Code Act.
When the case was mentioned, counsel to the nominal complainant, Mr Uyi Oloton, Mr Olayinwola Afolabi, SAN, who appeared alongside M. I. Okeke Esq, informed the court that members of the legal community had intervened in the matter.
Afolabi consequently applied for an adjournment to allow the intervention process to continue, assuring the court that the issue could be resolved amicably to the benefit of all parties.
The presiding judge, Justice B. O. Quadri, granted the application and adjourned the case to 23 February 2026 for a report on the intervention.
Asenoguan was present in court alongside his counsel, F. E. Esegine Esq, and Adesuwa Ediae Esq.
