Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, met President Bola Tinubu on Monday to outline his administration’s priorities on security, infrastructure development and closer cooperation with the federal government.
Sanusi Bature, spokesperson to the governor, said in a statement on Tuesday that the closed-door engagement was used to brief the president on critical challenges and emerging opportunities in Kano, with insecurity in some local government areas taking centre stage.
“He informed President Tinubu about the recent tragic killing of a housewife and her children, stressing the need for decisive federal support to strengthen security operations and protect innocent citizens,” the statement said.
“The governor highlighted the role of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps in complementing security agencies and called for deeper collaboration with federal security institutions.
“Governor Yusuf also discussed Kano’s development agenda, with special focus on mega infrastructure projects.
“He used the opportunity to thank the President about federal intervention on the Wujuwuju Road describing it as critical step to unlocking economic growth and job creation.”
Bature said Yusuf requested stronger federal backing to accelerate ongoing projects and ensure the state derives full benefit from national programmes and investments.
He added that Tinubu assured Yusuf of the federal government’s commitment to partner with Kano in addressing insecurity and advancing sustainable development.
