Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Hon. Mijinyawa Ardo Tilde, said the council considered and approved memos from the Ministries of Education; Works, Housing and Transport; and Finance and Economic Development.
The Commissioner for Education, Assoc. Prof. Aishatu Umar Maigari, said the council approved N661,557,121 for the payment of Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) fees for 23,873 students who qualified from a mock examination, representing 88 per cent of the 26,857 candidates who participated.
She explained that 21,909 students will sit for WAEC, 1,431 for NABTEB and 297 for NBAIS, including non-indigene students on exchange programmes and those living with special needs, adding that the cost will be shared between the state and local governments on a 60–40 basis.
On infrastructure, the Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Engr. Maijama’a Kallamu, announced the approval of N7.097 billion for the construction of 6.3 kilometres of road within the Family Homes Estate and N26.7 billion for the construction and reconstruction of strategic roads totalling 20.1 kilometres across the state.
He added that the council also approved N714.3 million for roads and facilities at the Qatar Foundation site along the Southern By-pass, N202.6 million for a Gombe Geographic Information Systems (GOGIS) Area Office, and N669.9 million for the renovation and upgrade of the Gombe International Airport, Lawanti.
The Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Muhammad Gambo Magaji, said N321 million was approved for compensation to property owners affected by underpass and road projects, while an additional N140.8 million was approved as compassionate payment to landowners at Jauro Abare.
Magaji further disclosed that the council approved Gombe State’s N5 billion contribution to a proposed North-East regional airline and N2.1 billion for the purchase of 26 operational and security vehicles for the newly created 13 Local Council Development Areas, set to begin operations in January 2026.
