He gave the charge during a breakfast meeting with the leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Akwa Ibom State chapter.
The governor explained that the creation of a separate Ministry of Youth Development was intended to provide a clear focus and enable the formulation of programmes and policies tailored specifically to the needs of young people in the state.
He noted that his administration has been deliberate about youth development through training and empowerment initiatives, particularly via the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre (DASAC) and the Ibom Leadership and Entrepreneurial Development Centre (Ibom-LED).
Governor Eno urged youths to take full advantage of the numerous opportunities available in the state for their personal growth and collective advancement, stressing that development thrives best in a peaceful environment.
Speaking on the 2027 general elections, he advised youths to allow peace to reign and cautioned them against being used to create political tension or instability in the state.
Also speaking, the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, described youths as leaders in their own right and said the youth council serves as a foundation for grooming future leaders. He added that Governor Eno has been favourable to youths through appointments and empowerment programmes and urged them to remain peaceful and law-abiding.
In his remarks, Hon. Martins Esin, Member of the House of Representatives for Oron/Mbo/Okobo/Udung Uko/Urue Offong Oruko Federal Constituency, commended the governor for his commitment to youth development, training and empowerment, as well as plans to establish youth-friendly centres across the 31 local government areas. He assured the governor of youths’ continued support beyond 2027.
On his part, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Ekerette Ekanem, alongside NYCN State Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Ekong, and other youth representatives, expressed appreciation to the governor for creating a separate youth ministry and prioritising youth empowerment. They assured him of sustained support and commitment to his re-election bid in 2027.
