The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Lagos Free Trade Zone (LFTZ) Command, Comptroller Hauwa Abubakar, has urged officers and men of the command to uphold professionalism, integrity and discipline, describing reputation as a critical asset to the effectiveness and legitimacy of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
Abubakar gave the charge on Wednesday while declaring open a Workshop on Reputation Management for officers and men of the LFTZ Command, organised in compliance with a directive from the NCS Headquarters.
Welcoming participants, the comptroller commended the Comptroller-General of Customs and the management of the Service for placing emphasis on character and conduct alongside revenue generation and enforcement.
She said public trust and stakeholder confidence in the NCS are largely determined by the reputation of the Service, noting that while reputation is difficult to rebuild once damaged, it can serve as a powerful tool for institutional effectiveness when carefully nurtured.
Abubakar warned that in an era of heightened public scrutiny and rapid information sharing, the actions of individual officers, both on and off duty, could significantly affect the image of the Service.
Highlighting the performance of the command, she disclosed that the LFTZ Command recorded a revenue collection of ₦724.39 billion in 2025, compared with ₦359.06 billion in the previous year, representing an increase of about 101.74 per cent.
According to her, the achievement reflects the dedication, professionalism and commitment of officers and men of the command, adding that sustainable revenue growth is closely linked to maintaining a disciplined, transparent and professional image.
Senior officers of the command, including the Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC) Abiola Abdullahi-Lagos, delivered presentations on operational transparency, professionalism, communication style, leadership, institutional values, and crisis and reputational risk management.
