Two additional members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have asked their colleagues to stop the impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The latest appeal was made at a press briefing on Wednesday by Barile Nwakoh, lawmaker representing Khana constituency I, and Emilia Amadi, who represents Obio/Akpor constituency II.
Their position followed a similar intervention by two other lawmakers who earlier cautioned against escalating the political crisis through impeachment.
Nwankwo said the lawmakers had received appeals from political leaders within and outside the state who advised moderation in handling the crisis.
He urged his colleagues to reconsider the impeachment move and pursue peaceful mechanisms for resolving the dispute.
Abbey said that although the governor may have breached constitutional provisions, such actions should be viewed within the context that errors can occur.
He added that the governor equally bears responsibility to ensure that any constitutional lapses are not repeated.
Recall that Sylvanus Eyinna Nwankwo, minority leader of the house and representative of Omuma constituency, and Peter Abbey, representing Degema constituency, had on Monday broken ranks to call for restraint.
The lawmakers urged the assembly to consider dialogue and reconciliation rather than removal proceedings amid rising tension between the legislative and executive arms.
