Governor Umo Eno restated his administration’s resolve during the MoU signing ceremony held on Monday at Government House, Uyo. He was represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah.
The governor described the deep seaport as a critical project capable of boosting the state’s economy and transforming the region, urging the consortium to work closely with the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP), which is representing the state government, to ensure timely and successful execution.
He noted that the project was a necessity for the people of Akwa Ibom State and assured that his administration was fully committed to providing all required support to place it on course. Governor Eno also commended Interaf Group for its interest in the project and praised former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Atuekong Don Etiebet, for his role in advancing the realisation of the seaport.
Speaking at the event, Etiebet lauded the governor’s leadership, describing it as visionary and impactful. He said the MoU marked a significant milestone in the Ibom Deep Seaport project, which was first conceived in 2007.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Interaf Group Consortium, Engr. Ezinwa Chinedu Ibekwe, expressed appreciation to the state government for the confidence reposed in the consortium. He assured that the company was ready to deliver on its mandate and pledged a collaborative approach to ensure the project’s success.
The high point of the ceremony was the formal signing of the MoU, which outlines the modalities and preliminary framework for collaboration on the development and operation of the Ibom Deep Seaport and the Ibom Industrial City.
Also in attendance were the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state, Hon. Uko Udom, SAN; the Managing Director of AKICORP, Pastor Imo-Abasi Jacob; and other senior government officials.
