The 2026 budget, totalling ₦1,584,271,856,630, allocates ₦416.59 billion, representing 24 per cent, to recurrent expenditure, while ₦1.17 trillion, or 76 per cent, is earmarked for capital projects.
Governor Eno explained that the capital-to-recurrent expenditure ratio was deliberately adopted to prioritise infrastructure, stimulate economic activities, create jobs and ensure that public funds are invested in projects with long-term value and measurable impact for the people of Akwa Ibom State.
The budget-signing ceremony was held during an enlarged meeting of the State Executive Council at the EXCO Chambers, Government House, Uyo, and was attended by the leadership of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, Elder Udeme Otong.
The governor commended the cordial relationship among the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary, noting that the synergy was responsible for the achievements recorded by the state government in the previous year.
He charged members of the State Executive Council to show renewed commitment and passion in service delivery, warning that non-performance would not be tolerated in 2026. “This year is not a year for excuses; it is a year for action,” Governor Eno said.
Earlier, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Elder Udeme Otong, praised the governor for his transparency and inclusive style of governance, assuring him of the legislature’s continued support and collaboration.
Also earlier in the day, Governor Eno presented the Commissioner of the Year Award to the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Anieti Udofia, in recognition of his leadership and the successful hosting of Christmas Unplugged 3.0.
