President Bola Tinubu has vowed that his administration will intensify efforts to tackle insecurity in 2026, disclosing that Nigeria, in collaboration with international partners including the United States, carried out decisive actions against terrorist targets in parts of the North-West in late 2025.
In his New Year address to Nigerians on Thursday, the President said the country continues to face serious security threats from criminal and terrorist groups bent on undermining national stability.
“Our nation continues to confront security threats from criminal and terrorist elements determined to disrupt our way of life,” Tinubu said, adding that the government has responded with co-ordinated military action.
Tinubu revealed that “in collaboration with international partners, including the United States, decisive actions were taken against terrorist targets in parts of the North-West on December 24.” He said the operations marked a significant step in degrading terror networks operating in the region.
According to the President, the Armed Forces have sustained momentum since the joint operation. “Our Armed Forces have since sustained operations against terror networks and criminal strongholds across the North-West and North-East,” he said, noting that security agencies are under clear instructions to maintain pressure on armed groups threatening peace and stability.
Looking ahead to 2026, Tinubu pledged deeper international and regional security co-operation to eliminate all threats to national security. “In 2026, our security and intelligence agencies will deepen co-operation with regional and global partners to eliminate all threats to national security,” he said.
