President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the legacies of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing them as rooted in discipline, integrity, purposeful leadership, and the belief that public office is a trust.
The president made the pledge on Monday in Abuja at the State House Conference Centre during the unveiling and public presentation of a book titled From Soldier to Statesman – The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, authored by Dr Charles Omole.
Tinubu affirmed that the book provides Nigerians with an opportunity to reflect on Buhari’s life and leadership, noting that the greatest honour that could be accorded to the former president is the continuation of the values and reforms he championed.
He described the publication as a balanced historical account that highlights both achievements and shortcomings, urging future leaders to draw lessons rather than rely on rhetoric.
The president also reflected on his long-standing political association with Buhari, describing him as a close ally with whom he shared years of political struggle.
He recalled their role in building a broad-based coalition that led to the historic 2015 election, which resulted in the defeat of an incumbent president and reshaped Nigeria’s political landscape. According to Tinubu, the experience highlighted the importance of cooperation across differences and responsible governance.
He stressed that nation-building is a collective responsibility that extends beyond political leaders to all citizens.
Tinubu commended the author, Dr Omole, for what he described as a rigorous and scholarly effort in producing the 600-page biography.
