Vice-President Kashim Shettima on Saturday inaugurated a ₦1 billion family-based business grant initiative in the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State, describing the intervention as a practical demonstration of the government’s commitment to bringing economic empowerment directly to Nigerian households.
Speaking during the launch of the Renewed Hope/ARISE Agenda Business Grant, Shettima stated that the Tinubu administration is determined to deliver development that is felt first at the grassroots, stressing that empowering families to build sustainable enterprises is central to national growth.
He noted that democracy achieves its purpose when government programmes translate into measurable improvements in the lives of ordinary citizens, adding that true empowerment lies in giving people the tools to create opportunities rather than temporary relief.
Shettima said the initiative reflects key pillars of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, including MSME support, job creation, poverty reduction, and expanded social protection.
The programme, conceptualised by Hon. Unyime Idem, the member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam in the House of Representatives, targets families with seed capital to start or expand small businesses.
The vice president disclosed that the intervention is designed to strengthen household-level enterprises as a pathway to inclusive growth and long-term economic stability.
He also stressed that democracy finds its true essence not in rhetoric but in programmes that elevate the living conditions of everyday Nigerians.
Shettima commended Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, saying its focus on agriculture, rural development, SME growth, and social welfare aligns with the priorities of the federal government.
