Vice-President Kashim Shettima on Monday represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of President Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan, reaffirming Nigeria’s dedication to peace, stability, and deeper regional co-operation across West Africa.
The ceremony, held at the Ivorian Presidential Palace, drew leaders from across the continent, international delegations, and high-level representatives from major global institutions. President Ouattara took the oath of office for a new term, pledging to strengthen national unity and maintain economic progress.
Delivering President Tinubu’s message of goodwill, Vice-President Shettima congratulated President Ouattara and expressed confidence in his leadership. He emphasised Nigeria’s readiness to bolster ties with Côte d’Ivoire, particularly through enhanced collaboration in security, agriculture, and trade.
Shettima noted that stronger co-operation between the two countries remains crucial as West African nations continue to confront shared challenges, including threats to regional peace and economic development.
In his address, President Ouattara thanked visiting heads of state and dignitaries for their support, promising to continue prioritising the welfare of Ivorian citizens while deepening diplomatic engagement across the region.
Among the leaders in attendance were the Presidents of South Africa, Liberia, Senegal, The Gambia, Angola, and Ghana, as well as former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan. The United States sent a presidential delegation led by Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg. ECOWAS officials and other global representatives were also present.
