The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has urged Christians to use the festive season to pray for Nigeria, stressing the need for divine intervention to address the nation’s challenges.
Tunji-Ojo made the call on Thursday while hosting Christian faithful under the umbrella of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at a Christmas funfair in Okeagbe Akoko, Ondo State.
The event, organised as part of activities marking the yuletide season, attracted CAN members from across the state, who gathered to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in an atmosphere of joy, fellowship and prayers.
Speaking through his representative, Hon. Fafunmilade Adetilewa, the minister described Christmas as a season of reflection, love and sacrifice, and appealed to Christians to dedicate the period to praying for the peace, unity and progress of the country.
He noted that Nigeria requires collective goodwill and divine guidance to overcome its socio-economic and security challenges, adding that prayers by the faithful remain vital to national growth and stability.
The guest speaker, Rt Rev. Bada, Bishop of the Akoko Anglican Diocese, commended Tunji-Ojo’s performance in office, describing him as a leader divinely positioned for greater achievements.
“Tunji-Ojo is a child of the covenant; he is a chosen vessel of God. That is why the ministry he is heading is thriving. He is just starting; he is going higher,” he said.
Also speaking, the Chairman of CAN in Ondo State, the Very Rev. Father Anslem Ologunwa, represented by the CAN State Secretary, Most Superior Rotimi Amos, urged leaders at all levels to emulate the virtues of Christ by being selfless, just and people-oriented, while commending the minister for identifying with the Christian community during the festive season.
