A United States Congressional delegation is currently in Nigeria on a fact-finding mission aimed at strengthening security cooperation between both countries, following earlier high-level engagements in Washington, D.C.
The delegation, received on Monday by senior Nigerian government officials, includes Rep. Mario Díaz-Balart, Rep. Norma Torres, Rep. Scott Franklin, Rep. Juan Ciscomani, and Rep. Riley M. Moore. Their visit underscores growing U.S. legislative interest in West Africa’s security landscape and Nigeria’s pivotal role in regional stability.
The U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, was also in attendance, reflecting the importance both nations continue to place on sustained diplomatic and security dialogue.
According to Nigerian authorities, discussions centred on counterterrorism cooperation, regional peace efforts, and strategies to further strengthen the long-standing security partnership between Nigeria and the United States. The meeting also explored expanded intelligence sharing, enhanced joint military collaboration, and support for initiatives designed to tackle emerging security threats across the sub-region.
Officials described the engagement as constructive and forward-looking, expressing optimism that the talks would deepen mutual trust and reinforce the shared commitment to global and regional peace.
