President Bola Tinubu on Saturday visited Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, where he commissioned several infrastructure and social development projects executed by the state government.
The President arrived in Maiduguri at about 12:30 p.m. as part of a three-state official tour covering Borno, Bauchi, and Lagos states.
During the visit, he inaugurated the international wing and VIP extension of the Muhammadu Buhari Airport, as well as electric vehicles, intra-state buses, tricycles, and three model schools at primary, junior secondary, and senior secondary levels.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Tinubu emphasised the importance of sustained investment in education, describing it as critical to the country’s future and the development of children.
In addition to the official engagements, the President attended the wedding ceremony of Sadeeq Sheriff, son of former Borno State Governor Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, and Hadiza Kam Salem. In line with Kanuri tradition, President Tinubu stood in as the father of the groom, while Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum represented the bride’s family and received the traditional bride price.
The marriage ceremony was hosted by the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, at the Maiduguri Central Mosque.
Several dignitaries attended the events, including the governors of Katsina, Taraba, Yobe, Delta, Gombe, Adamawa, and Ogun states, as well as senators, ministers, and other senior government officials.
