President Bola Tinubu has congratulated retired General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma on his 88th birthday, praising him as a statesman whose life and service have profoundly shaped Nigeria’s history.
In a goodwill message issued on Tuesday, the president described Danjuma as a “distinguished statesman, soldier, and gentleman” who demonstrated unwavering loyalty to Nigeria both in war and in peace. Tinubu said the former Chief of Army Staff played a stabilising role during some of the country’s most challenging periods, particularly when national unity was fragile.
The president noted that Danjuma’s contributions extend far beyond his military career, highlighting his continued influence through frank national commentary and mentorship. He added that many leaders — including himself — have benefited from Danjuma’s clarity, courage, and readiness to offer guidance in difficult moments.
Tinubu also commended the impact of the TY Danjuma Foundation, describing it as one of Africa’s most respected philanthropic institutions. He said the foundation’s work has brought dignity and support to countless families, leaving a legacy that will outlive generations.
“At eighty-eight, he stands as an elder whose life has helped shape the direction of our nation,” Tinubu said, praying for the retired general’s continued health, strength, and peace.
