Vice-President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to remodel the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) into a digitally driven, financially stable, and globally recognised centre of excellence by 2030.
Shettima stated this on Saturday while representing the president at the graduation ceremony of participants of the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 47 at the NIPSS headquarters in Kuru, Plateau State.
According to the vice president, the Tinubu administration views NIPSS as a critical national institution for developing strategic thinkers, reformers, and innovators, stressing that its research outputs must move beyond academic excellence to practical implementation.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been unequivocal in his commitment to supporting NIPSS in its transformation agenda,” Shettima said, adding that the institute’s policy outputs would henceforth be fully integrated into national decision-making and execution frameworks.
He noted that government support for NIPSS would extend beyond funding and infrastructure to ensuring the production of “implementation-ready policy papers” capable of addressing Nigeria’s complex governance challenges.
Commending the theme of SEC 47, “Blue Economy and Sustainable Development in Nigeria,” Shettima described it as timely and reflective of the interconnection between development, security, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion. He said the value of the research lay not only in its academic depth but also in its grounding in Nigeria’s realities.
The vice president praised the graduands for their research into Nigeria’s maritime domain, noting that securing waterways and coastlines was critical to livelihoods, food security, environmental protection, and national cohesion.
He disclosed that relevant ministries, departments, and agencies had been directed to give close attention to the course’s recommendations for both immediate application and long-term planning.
