Vice President Kashim Shettima and Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum on Friday visited victims of Wednesday’s bomb blast at a mosque in Maiduguri, who are receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).
The visit followed the deadly explosion at a mosque in Gamboru Market on Wednesday, 24 December, which left several worshippers injured. The attack is believed to have been carried out by Boko Haram insurgents.
Speaking to journalists at the hospital, the vice president sympathised with the victims and their families, assuring them of the Federal Government’s resolve to end terrorism and restore lasting peace to the region.
Shettima said the visit was on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, to reassure the people of Borno State and Nigerians at large of the administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the country.
He also commended Governor Zulum for his sustained efforts in supporting federal security initiatives, noting that the Borno State Government has continued to work round the clock to strengthen the state’s security architecture.
The delegation received a briefing from the Director of the Muhammadu Buhari Trauma Centre, who disclosed that several of the injured victims had been treated and discharged, others were responding positively to medical care, while one patient remained in critical condition.
