Vice President Kashim Shettima has condemned the bomb explosion at a mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, Borno State, which reportedly killed about five people and injured several others, describing the incident as an attack on innocent citizens and national peace.
Following the attack, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed an immediate intensification of security operations across Borno State, the vice president said on Thursday. He added that additional tactical teams have been deployed to track down and apprehend those responsible.
Shettima affirmed that the federal government would not tolerate any attempt to undermine the country’s security, noting that security agencies are working around the clock to bring the perpetrators to justice. He expressed confidence that the existing security architecture would both apprehend the suspects and uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The vice president also extended condolences to the Borno State Government, residents of the affected area, and families of the victims, assuring them that those responsible would face the full weight of the law.
Reaffirming the administration’s stance on security, Shettima assured that the Tinubu-led government has remained steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s unity, stability, and security since assuming office in 2023. He stressed that security agencies would continue to receive the necessary resources and support to combat terrorism in all its forms.
