The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has formally issued expulsion certificates to 11 prominent members, including former governors Nyesom Wike and Ayodele Fayose, in what the party describes as a decisive step toward restoring internal discipline ahead of the 2027 elections.
The announcement was made in Abuja on Tuesday at a briefing after the meeting of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), chaired by Kabiru Turaki, SAN.
Turaki said the affected members — among them Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Umaru Bature, Kamarudeen Ajibade (SAN), Abdurahman Muhammad, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah Nnanna, George Turna, and Dan Orbih — have already had their expulsion certificates dispatched via courier.
“They have been expelled. They remain expelled. We have now certified their expulsion, and these certificates have been sent to them,” Turaki said.
He added that the PDP had also begun formally notifying INEC, the Police, DSS, NSCDC, and other relevant institutions that the individuals were no longer members of the party.
“Very soon, the public will be informed through disclaimers that anyone who transacts with these persons in the name of the PDP does so at their own risk,” the chairman warned.
Turaki confirmed that the party successfully conducted its ad hoc delegate congresses in Osun State, noting that the governorship primary was ongoing and that Governor Ademola Adeleke remained an aspirant.
He dismissed reports circulating online about Adeleke’s resignation from the PDP, saying the NWC had received no formal communication to that effect.
On recent ambassadorial nominations of former governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Turaki said the party had not been officially notified by the duo.
“If they communicate with us, we will consider the matter on its merit,” he said.
Turaki used the briefing to issue a strong condemnation of the country’s security situation under the APC-led government, saying Nigerians “live and walk in perpetual fear,” and calling for a total overhaul of the nation’s security architecture.
He also addressed ongoing legal disputes involving the party, including cases concerning its offices at Legacy House and Wadata Plaza, adding that the NWC was reviewing handover notes from its predecessors to ensure stability and continuity.
Turaki reaffirmed the PDP’s readiness to play its role as Nigeria’s leading opposition party, saying: “We are now prepared to perform our functions as the credible alternative in 2027.”
