According to information from the governor’s media office, Otti encouraged Kanu to remain strong, stating that engagements he initiated more than two years ago — and which Kanu is aware of — have been intensified despite recent developments.
The governor expressed confidence that the matter would be resolved administratively and assured the IPOB leader that he would regain his freedom.
Otti also disclosed that the Sultan of Sokoto shared his view on the need to de-escalate tension and ensure Kanu’s release. He added that the Sultan, in a light-hearted moment, joked that Kanu had become his “subject” and that he intended to turban him — a remark that reportedly drew laughter from Kanu.
Kanu, said to be in high spirits during the visit, thanked Governor Otti for the gesture, noting that he was not surprised by the visit as the governor had shown similar concern in the past. He commended Otti’s performance in Abia, comparing his achievements to those of the late Dee Sam Mbakwe, whose leadership in the old Imo State remains widely celebrated.
Kanu reiterated his interest in good governance and the welfare of the people, praying for continued strength and guidance for the governor and his team.
Governor Otti was accompanied by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Ikechukwu Uwanna, SAN; his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma; and senior officials of the Sokoto State Government. Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, was also present during the visit.
