The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 2,380 personnel across the state to ensure adequate security during the yuletide season.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Command Public Relations Officer, ASC1 Ayoola Shola, and made available to journalists on Saturday in Ilorin.
The state commandant, Dr Umar Muhammed, disclosed that the deployment is aimed at protecting critical national assets, securing public facilities and ensuring the safety of residents throughout the festive period.
According to him, the personnel have been deployed across all 16 local government areas of the state and were drawn from specialised units, including the Armed Squad, Operational Harmony, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Anti-Vandal Unit, and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE) Unit. He added that officers were strategically positioned based on threat assessments and operational needs.
The commandant assured residents that the NSCDC would work closely with other security agencies and local vigilantes to ensure effective coverage, rapid response and improved security coordination during the festive season.
Dr Muhammed extended Christmas and New Year greetings to the people of Kwara State, while warning vandals and other miscreants to steer clear of critical national assets and public infrastructure, stressing that the Corps is fully prepared to deal decisively with any act capable of breaching public peace.
He further urged residents to remain vigilant and security-conscious, and to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency, noting that community cooperation is essential to maintaining a safe and peaceful yuletide season.
