This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin,.
The statement clarified that at no point did any court restrain the NPF from enforcing laws regarding tinted glass on vehicles. However, in the interest of public convenience, the Force had earlier suspended enforcement to allow motorists sufficient time to regularise their documentation.
The NPF noted that recent trends indicate a surge in criminal activities involving vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass. Some individuals and organised criminal groups have reportedly exploited this loophole to conceal their identities and facilitate crimes, including armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent offences.
In view of these developments, the Force deemed it necessary to resume full enforcement as a proactive measure to safeguard communities nationwide.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured the public that the renewed enforcement would be conducted professionally, with respect for citizens’ rights, and in full compliance with existing laws.
He emphasised the Force’s continued commitment to public safety and upholding the rule of law while collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure national security.
Motorists are advised to apply for the Tinted Glass Permit through approved channels and ensure that their vehicles comply with legal requirements ahead of the enforcement date.
