Describing the attack as “unacceptable,” Governor AbdulRazaq emphasised that peaceful protest is a democratic right and that the women were entitled to express their views.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the government distanced itself from the incident, saying it does not reflect its values.
“We call on the police to find the attackers and bring them to account,” it added.
The statement also highlighted the state government’s commitment to security, noting that just two days prior, on Saturday, December 27, Governor AbdulRazaq personally led the passing-out parade of armed forest guards tasked with combating kidnappers and terrorists in the state’s forests.
