Kwara State has again received national recognition as the Best Performing State in the North-Central zone for Primary Health Care (PHC) leadership, marking the third consecutive time the state has won the prestigious award.
The honour, which comes with a $400,000 performance-based grant, was presented in Abuja and is aimed at strengthening primary healthcare delivery across the state. According to the state government, the funds will be invested in upgrading health facilities in line with UNICEF and Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) standards.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq described the award as a strong endorsement of his administration’s sustained commitment to improving primary healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to essential health services for residents.
Receiving the award on behalf of the state were the First Lady, Her Excellency Ambassador Olufolake AbdulRazaq; the Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-Imam; the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA), Prof Nusirat Elelu; and the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Health Insurance Agency (KWHIA), Dr Olubunmi Jetawo-Winter.
Governor AbdulRazaq commended the leadership and staff of the Ministry of Health, the Primary Health Care Development Agency, and healthcare workers across the state for their dedication and support, noting that the recognition is a call to sustain and deepen reforms in the health sector.
