Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Monday presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the state parliament, proposing a total budget of N644,004,816,893.00. Of this amount, 65.98 per cent is allocated to capital expenditure, while 34.02 per cent is set aside for recurrent spending, including support for the poor and workers’ welfare.
The governor said the fiscal plan prioritises the completion of ongoing capital projects and the initiation of new ones aligned with the strategic needs of the state, stressing that the allocations reflect the government’s development direction for the coming year.
Presenting the bill in compliance with Section 121 (1) of the 1999 Constitution, AbdulRazaq said the 2026 budget would focus on urgent areas such as security hardware, vehicles and technology to strengthen the state’s response to kidnapping and other criminal activities.
He added that the budget, tagged Budget of Consolidation and Sustained Growth, is anchored on key national economic assumptions, including an oil price benchmark of US$64.85 per barrel, daily oil production of 1.84 million barrels, an exchange rate of N1,400 to the dollar, and a GDP growth rate of 4.68 per cent.
The governor expressed confidence that the proposed projects would expand the state’s economic base, create jobs and promote sustainable development, while freeing up more resources for social protection. He noted that Economic Affairs accounts for 26.46 per cent of the budget, reflecting the administration’s inclusive approach to development.
AbdulRazaq also announced measures to improve workers’ welfare, including an upward adjustment in the earnings of medical officers to attract and retain professionals, as well as the introduction of a new Teachers Salary Allowance from 2026 to support educators.
He disclosed plans for massive investment in the Alfalfa Estate to address herder–farmer clashes, boost food security and empower thousands of residents across the agricultural value chain, alongside continued upgrades in health and education infrastructure.
Earlier, Speaker of the House, Salihu Yakubu-Danladi, commended the governor for his respect for the separation of powers, transparency and dedication to duty, citing visible achievements in infrastructure, agriculture, food security and improved welfare for workers.
