The visit, according to a statement by Akeweje Olayinka Fafoluyi, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Governor, was aimed at encouraging the prospective guards and their instructors, reflecting the administration’s commitment to strengthening security across the state.
The governor’s presence was also expected to enhance the morale of the trainees and reassure residents — particularly those in communities affected by recent security threats — that concrete steps are being taken to restore safety in rural areas.
Officials at the training centre disclosed that the recruits have recorded steady progress since the programme began, noting that the hands-on sessions are preparing them for field operations upon deployment.
The administration stated that it remains determined to stabilise troubled parts of the state. So far, over 700 forest guards have already been recruited and trained in basic military tactics, and are currently working with security agencies to enhance surveillance and tackle emerging threats.
While the military continues to clear ungoverned forests, the forest guards are expected to complement their efforts by ensuring that reclaimed areas remain inaccessible to criminal elements. Tmm
