The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Daniel Okoh, says Christians across the country celebrated Christmas this year without any recorded attacks on churches, describing it as the first such experience in many years.
Okoh made the remark on Friday while speaking with journalists after leading a delegation of Christian leaders on a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at his Lagos residence.
According to the CAN president, the visit aimed to express appreciation to President Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for their efforts in supporting vulnerable Nigerians and promoting national development.
He said the association was particularly encouraged by recent steps taken by the federal government to improve security and ensure peaceful coexistence across the country.
“This Christmas happens to be the first in many years that we were not woken up by distress calls reporting attacks on churches,” Okoh said. “This is a testimony that deserves to be shared.”
He added that the development has brought relief to the Christian community and expressed hope that the trend would continue.
Okoh also reaffirmed CAN’s commitment to working with the Tinubu administration to promote peace, progress, and national unity, stressing the need for continued collaboration in the interest of Nigeria’s development.
