The commendation was contained in a congratulatory message issued by the Commission to mark the minister’s 58th birthday.
In the message, personally signed by the Chairman of the FCSC, Prof. Tunji Olaopa, the Commission acknowledged the infrastructural strides recorded under Wike’s leadership but placed particular emphasis on his reform initiatives within the FCT civil service.
Olaopa noted that Wike’s intervention led to the operationalisation of the FCT Civil Service Commission, the establishment of the Office of the Head of Service, and the appointment of Permanent Secretaries developments he described as landmark achievements that have revived career progression and professional fulfilment for civil servants in the territory.
He stated that although the Federal Capital Territory Civil Service Commission Act was passed into law in 2018, its implementation stalled for years, resulting in administrative challenges and career stagnation for many civil servants, adding “However, this situation changed with the emergence of Minister Nyesom Wike, who, in his characteristic decisive and forthright manner, ensured not only the full establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission but also the creation of the offices of the Head of the Civil Service of the FCT and Permanent Secretaries”.
According to him, these reforms laid the institutional foundation required for professionalism, merit-based advancement, and effective public administration in the FCT, often described as Nigeria’s ‘37th state.’
The FCSC Chairman added that Wike’s reform drive aligns strongly with the Commission’s broader aspiration to strengthen institutional gatekeeping, deepen meritocracy, and reposition the Nigerian civil service as a world-class institution. He also described the reforms as a practical demonstration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He further described Wike’s accomplishments as a legacy of strengthening subnational governance systems and steering them away from institutional inertia.
Reflecting on the significance of the minister’s birthday, Olaopa said milestones for public office holders should go beyond age to include measurable contributions to governance, policy advancement, and institution building.
On behalf of the Commissioners and staff of the Federal Civil Service Commission, Olaopa congratulated Wike for his patriotic service, visionary leadership, and commitment to institutional development., adding “We celebrate your dedication to public service and your partnership with the FCSC in ensuring that the FCT and Nigeria at large functions more effectively than you met it. We wish you many more years of productive service,”
