Nwaoboshi passed away on Friday in Abuja after a brief illness. His death was confirmed by the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, in a condolence message.
The Governor described the late lawmaker’s death as a profound loss to Delta State, the Anioma nation and the country at large, noting his enduring contributions to public service and nation-building.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Oborevwori praised Nwaoboshi as a fearless advocate of the Anioma cause and a committed leader whose impact would not be forgotten.
He recalled Nwaoboshi’s time in the National Assembly, highlighting his role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, where he was noted for his consistent advocacy for the development of the oil-producing region.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the passing of my dear friend, Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi,” the Governor said. “I extend my heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the Anioma people, members of the All Progressives Congress and all those affected by his passing.”
Before his election to the Senate in 2015, Nwaoboshi served as a two-term Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Delta State, playing a key role in strengthening the party’s structure and influence in the state.
He is remembered as a seasoned politician and influential figure in Delta State politics.
