Governor Eno made this known during his participation in the Ikot Abasi Day celebration, held as part of the ongoing State Christmas Unplugged 3.0 festival at Unity Park, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo.
He explained that his presence at the event was inspired by his resolve to honour cultural bonds and long-standing relationships, particularly his ties with the people of Ikot Abasi. The governor noted that his relationship with the community is strengthened by family and personal connections, including his bond as an in-law in the area and his friendship with Engr. Uwem Okoko, Managing Director of Hensek Integrated Services.
Quoting an Ibibio adage, Governor Eno said, “If you rub my back, I will also rub your back. Hensek is my friend, a good friend whose loyalty has been tested and proven beyond reasonable doubt.”
He recounted that he and Engr. Okoko had attended several engagements together earlier in the day before Okoko sought his permission to participate in the Ikot Abasi Day celebration.
“When he asked for permission, I assured him not only of my approval but also of my presence at the event,” the governor added.
Governor Eno described his attendance as a demonstration of honour, solidarity and respect for the rich culture and traditions of Akwa Ibom State and the Ikot Abasi people in particular.
He expressed appreciation to the people of Ikot Abasi for the warm reception accorded him and commended them for showcasing their cultural heritage, noting that such displays significantly support the culture and tourism development objectives of his administration under the ARISE Agenda.
Earlier in his remarks, Engr. Uwem Okoko thanked Governor Eno for what he described as his visionary and people-centred leadership, which he said has continued to drive economic transformation in the state.
He praised the governor as a culture- and tourism-friendly leader whose passion for heritage development has created job opportunities, fostered unity and strengthened social harmony across Akwa Ibom State. Okoko also commended Governor Eno for keeping his word by attending the celebration despite his tight schedule.
