An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Wednesday sentenced 18-year-old Obisesan Saltan to 10 years’ imprisonment for sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl in Lagos.
Presiding Justice Rahman Oshodi handed down seven years for indecent treatment of a child and three years for sexual assault by penetration, to run concurrently. The offence occurred on October 11, 2023, around 9:30 p.m. in the Gbagada area of the state.
Saltan was first arraigned on November 25, 2025, by the Lagos State Government (LASG), where he pleaded not guilty. During subsequent hearings, prosecution witnesses testified against him, leading to a plea bargain agreement on November 4, 2024. Saltan confirmed his understanding and acceptance of the plea terms during resumed proceedings.
His lawyer, Adegboyega, appealed for leniency, noting that Saltan lost his mother as a baby and has been learning shoemaking to improve his life.
However, LASG counsel Bukola Okeowo urged strict adherence to the plea agreement and requested that Saltan’s name be entered into the Lagos State Sex Offenders Register under the Sexual Offences Law (2015 amendment).
Justice Oshodi sentenced Saltan to 10 years’ imprisonment, starting from the date of his arrest, October 11, 2023, and ordered his inclusion in the sexual offenders’ register as mandated by law.
